Sanity

Pull documents from a Sanity dataset with the sanity() source — a GROQ query picks the documents and their Portable Text bodies become Markdown.

The built-in sanity() adapter runs a GROQ query and maps each document’s fields to frontmatter and its Portable Text body to Markdown. A body held in a Markdown string field passes through as written, except that a link that isn’t a web, mail, phone, or relative address (a javascript: URL, say) keeps only its label. The adapter declares @sanity/client as its runtime dependency — an optional peer, so install it only if you use this source.

A read token for a private dataset comes from the SANITY_TOKEN environment variable. The adapter declares it, so blume dev and blume build warn when it’s unset; a public dataset works without it. Sanity answers a private dataset’s query without a token with no documents rather than an error, so when a query finds nothing and the token is unset, the source adds a BLUME_MISSING_SECRET warning saying so. Under --preview the adapter reads drafts with the previewDrafts perspective, which @sanity/client 8 reports as renamed to drafts; the old name still works, and @sanity/client 6 accepts only the old one. Custom Portable Text block types map to Blume components through the engine’s serializers option, available when you construct sanitySource directly and pass it to custom(). Setting serializers writes the source’s pages as MDX, so a component or directive a serializer returns renders.
