Blume is free. Here's what your docs cost.

No plans, seats, or credits. Blume is open source and runs on your own host, so you pay only your host and, for AI features, your model provider. Here's how that compares with a hosted platform.

Estimates, not quotes. Mintlify is priced on Pro billed annually, with extra credits covered by the cheapest mix of one add-on and overage; Enterprise adds volume discounts it doesn't publish. Blume is priced on Cloudflare, where a server build's Worker answers page views too. An answer is priced on openai/gpt-6-luna and assumes about 14,000 input and 1,000 output tokens (a search and a page read before it replies), and a narrated page about 6,000 characters. A custom domain costs the same either way. Something out of date? Let us know

Questions, answered.About what Blume costs to run.

Is Blume really free?

Yes. Blume is open source under the MIT license, with no paid tier, seats, or usage limits, and no account to sign up for. You pay only for your host and, if you turn on AI features, your model provider.

Is there a hosted version of Blume?

No. blume build outputs a site you deploy to your own host: Cloudflare, Vercel, Netlify, GitHub Pages, any static host, or a Node server. Nothing phones home.

Do I need a server?

Not for most docs. A static build covers pages, search, llms.txt, Markdown mirrors, and Open Graph images. The assistant and the MCP server need a server build, which you get by naming your host's adapter in blume.config.ts.

What does the assistant cost to run?

Your model provider's token price. Each answer sends the most relevant pages of your docs to the model, which comes to about $1.90 per 1,000 answers on openai/gpt-6-luna. A larger model costs more per answer, and you choose which one. Rate limiting is on by default, at 30 questions per reader every 10 minutes, which stops one script from running up the bill. It limits each address, not your total spend, so add the assistant's bot check to stop a script that spreads its requests across many addresses.

What do I give up by not paying for a platform?

A browser editor, a hosted analytics dashboard, and a vendor to call. With Blume, pages live in your Git repo, analytics go to the provider you choose, and support is GitHub issues. Someone on your team owns the deploy and upgrades the blume package.

How can I support Blume?

Sponsor the project on GitHub, report issues, or send a pull request. Blume stays free either way.
