# Blume

> The open-source docs framework for humans and agents. Drop Markdown into a folder and ship a fast, searchable docs site.

Reach for Blume when a project needs a documentation site from Markdown or MDX with no app code to maintain: product docs, API references (OpenAPI, AsyncAPI, GraphQL), changelogs, blogs, and multi-language or versioned docs. Drop files in a `docs/` folder and run the `blume` CLI — it generates and drives the Astro site, search, OG images, and the agent-facing surface (llms.txt and Markdown mirrors by default, plus an opt-in MCP server and published agent skills) for you.

Scaffold a site with `npx blume init` (package: https://www.npmjs.com/package/blume), which installs dependencies and adds scripts: `npm run dev` to preview and `npm run build` to ship. Every other command runs through the package runner, like `npx blume eject` to turn the hidden project into a standalone Astro app. The `blume` agent skill below covers configuration and authoring; `npx blume migrate <source> --codex` (or `--claude`) hands an existing Mintlify, Docusaurus, GitBook, MkDocs, ReadMe, or other docs site to a coding agent with the `blume-migrate` skill.

## Docs

- [Introduction](https://useblume.dev/docs): Blume is an open-source, markdown-first documentation framework on Astro and Vite — fast, AI-ready, and zero-config down to the template.
- [Quickstart](https://useblume.dev/docs/quickstart): Install Blume, scaffold a new project, and ship your first documentation page in minutes — then grow it into a full site at your own pace.
- [Deployment](https://useblume.dev/docs/deployment): Deploy static docs to any host with zero configuration, or name a host adapter from blume/deploy to switch to server rendering when you need dynamic behavior.
- [Migrate to Blume](https://useblume.dev/docs/migrating): Move a Mintlify, Docusaurus, GitBook, MkDocs, ReadMe, or other docs site to Blume with one command that hands the migration to Codex or Claude Code.
- [Upgrade to Blume 2](https://useblume.dev/docs/upgrading): Move a Blume 1 site to Blume 2 with one command, then use this guide for each config change — or hand the whole upgrade to Codex or Claude Code.
- [FAQ](https://useblume.dev/docs/faq): Common questions about Blume — how it compares to other documentation tools, and why a Markdown formatter might collapse your callout directives.

### Content

- [Pages](https://useblume.dev/docs/content): How the files in your content folder become pages, and how to organize and name them so routing and navigation are inferred automatically.
- [Navigation](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/navigation): Blume builds the sidebar from your files, then lets you refine it with frontmatter, folder meta, or config — breadcrumbs and outlines follow along.
- [Folder meta](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/meta): Configure a sidebar group with a meta.ts file beside its pages — set the group's title, icon, order, and the order of the pages nested inside.
- [Frontmatter](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/frontmatter): Every frontmatter field a page accepts, all optional — title, description, sidebar, SEO, search, and the rest, with what each one controls.
- [Syntax](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/syntax): Every Markdown and MDX feature Blume renders — formatting, lists, tables, callouts, code blocks, package installs, and math.
- [Includes](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/includes): Reuse content across pages — splice shared Markdown, MDX, or code files into any page with the include syntax.
- [Variables](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/variables): Define a value once in blume.config.ts and write {{name}} anywhere a page needs it, in prose, code, links, and component props.
- [Components](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/components): Cards, steps, tabs, accordions, badges, code groups, frames, trees, type tables, live previews, and diffs — the built-in components, usable in any MDX page.
- [Islands](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/islands): Drop an interactive component into islands/ and use it in any MDX page — hydrated automatically, no per-page import.
- [Internationalization](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/i18n): Serve your docs in multiple languages with locale-aware routing, per-language navigation, translated UI, and SEO — all convention-first.
- [Versioning](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/versioning): Freeze snapshots of your docs per release with a version switcher, canonical-to-latest SEO, version-scoped search, and a version-aware agent surface.

#### Content sources

- [Content sources](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/sources): Pull docs from local files, a remote repository, a CMS, or any custom backend — and mix several sources into one static-first site read at build time.

- [Obsidian](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/sources/obsidian): Publish an Obsidian vault in place with the obsidian() source — wikilinks, properties, and vault images resolve at build time, with no export step.
- [Remote MDX](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/sources/remote-mdx): Fetch Markdown and MDX over HTTP from a GitHub repository or a raw URL with the mdxRemote() source, rendered with every Blume component.
- [GitHub Releases](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/sources/github-releases): Turn a repository's GitHub releases into changelog entries with the githubReleases() source, so your release notes are your changelog.
- [Sanity](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/sources/sanity): Pull documents from a Sanity dataset with the sanity() source — a GROQ query picks the documents and their Portable Text bodies become Markdown.
- [Notion](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/sources/notion): Import a Notion database with the notion() source — rows become pages, properties become frontmatter, and blocks become Blume components.
- [Contentful](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/sources/contentful): Read a Contentful content type through the Delivery API with the contentful() source, lowering rich text bodies to Markdown with nothing to install.
- [Payload](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/sources/payload): Read a Payload collection through its REST API with the payload() source, lowering Lexical rich text bodies to Markdown with nothing to install.
- [Strapi](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/sources/strapi): Read a Strapi content type through its REST API with the strapi() source, lowering Blocks bodies to Markdown on both Strapi 4 and Strapi 5.
- [Custom sources](https://useblume.dev/docs/content/sources/custom): Plug any backend into Blume with custom() — pass an object that implements the ContentSource interface, or a built-in engine with custom serializers.

### Configuration

- [Configuration file](https://useblume.dev/docs/configuration): Every option in blume.config.ts, from site metadata and content sources to the links that lead into each individual feature configuration guide.
- [Theming](https://useblume.dev/docs/configuration/theming): Tune the look with a handful of config tokens, override any CSS variable in theme.css, or drop down to Tailwind utilities for custom components.
- [Customization](https://useblume.dev/docs/configuration/customization): Override components, add interactive islands, mount custom pages, install registry components, or eject entirely when you need full control.
- [Search](https://useblume.dev/docs/configuration/search): Client-side search that works out of the box with no API keys, plus hosted and semantic adapters you can switch to as your docs grow.
- [Assistant](https://useblume.dev/docs/configuration/assistant): An in-page assistant grounded in your docs — suggested questions, custom instructions, retrieval sizing, provider adapters for OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Grok, the Vercel AI Gateway, and any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, and the server output it needs.
- [Rate limiting](https://useblume.dev/docs/configuration/rate-limiting): Limit how often one reader can call the assistant, the API playground proxy, and server-side search, on by default, with the count kept in memory, Upstash, Cloudflare, or Unkey.
- [Narration](https://useblume.dev/docs/configuration/narration): A "Listen to this page" player that reads each page aloud and highlights the sentence being read, using the reader's own browser voices or neural voices generated at build time.
- [Analytics](https://useblume.dev/docs/configuration/analytics): First-party web analytics — PostHog, Google Analytics, Plausible, Mixpanel, Segment, and more — as adapters in blume.config.ts.
- [Cookie consent](https://useblume.dev/docs/configuration/consent): Ask readers before analytics runs, with Blume's own banner or a hosted consent manager like Osano or Ethyca, as an adapter in blume.config.ts.
- [Export](https://useblume.dev/docs/configuration/export): Let readers download any page as a PDF or EPUB — rendered client-side, so your static builds stay static and need no server infrastructure.

### Discoverability

- [SEO and GEO](https://useblume.dev/docs/discoverability): How a Blume site gets found — by search engines and social platforms on one side, coding agents and AI assistants on the other — and where each surface is configured.
- [Metadata](https://useblume.dev/docs/discoverability/metadata): The head tags every page renders — title, description, canonical, Open Graph and X card tags — and how to override them per page from frontmatter.
- [Open Graph images](https://useblume.dev/docs/discoverability/open-graph): Generated 1200×630 social cards for every page — branding, card layers, fonts for non-Latin scripts, and per-page overrides.
- [Structured data](https://useblume.dev/docs/discoverability/structured-data): The schema.org JSON-LD every page carries — WebSite, page, and breadcrumb nodes — plus the optional Organization and SoftwareApplication blocks that tell search engines and agents who you are.
- [RSS feeds](https://useblume.dev/docs/discoverability/rss): A feed per dated content type — blog and changelog by default — served at /<type>/rss.xml and advertised to feed readers automatically.
- [Sitemap and robots](https://useblume.dev/docs/discoverability/sitemap-and-robots): The sitemap.xml and robots.txt Blume writes for crawlers, and the Content-Signal line that tells AI crawlers how they may use your docs.
- [llms.txt](https://useblume.dev/docs/discoverability/llms-txt): The llms.txt index and llms-full.txt corpus Blume generates for coding agents and chat assistants, the details block that tells them when to use your product, and how to exclude a page.
- [Markdown for agents](https://useblume.dev/docs/discoverability/markdown): Every page's raw Markdown at a .md URL or via Accept content negotiation, custom serializers for your own components, and the Copy as Markdown and Open in chat actions readers get for free.
- [JSON API](https://useblume.dev/docs/discoverability/json-api): The read-only JSON API every Blume site serves — page index, per-page documents, navigation, search — and the OpenAPI 3.1 description that lets function-calling frameworks build tools from it.
- [MCP server](https://useblume.dev/docs/discoverability/mcp): Host a Model Context Protocol server so coding agents can search and read your docs directly — tools, resources, discovery documents, content-type and facet filters, the Connect to MCP menu, and the server output it needs.
- [Agent discovery](https://useblume.dev/docs/discoverability/agent-discovery): How agents find your machine-readable surface without guessing — the agent-readability manifest, Link headers, the RFC 9727 API catalog, WebMCP, your site's generated skill and published skills, DNS-based discovery, and Web Bot Auth keys.

### Advanced

- [Skills](https://useblume.dev/docs/advanced/skills): The agent skills Blume ships — playbooks that teach a coding agent like Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor to build and maintain a Blume docs site.
- [Custom pages](https://useblume.dev/docs/advanced/custom-pages): Mount fully custom .astro routes alongside your docs and read your site's config, navigation, and content from the blume:data module.
- [Changelogs](https://useblume.dev/docs/advanced/changelog): Author release notes as ordinary content files or source them from GitHub Releases, and Blume builds a timeline page and an RSS feed automatically.
- [Blog](https://useblume.dev/docs/advanced/blog): Publish posts as content, get an RSS feed and article structured data for free, and build a custom index page.

### References

- [OpenAPI](https://useblume.dev/docs/references/openapi): Drop in an OpenAPI spec and get a native API reference — one real page per operation, in your sidebar and search.
- [AsyncAPI](https://useblume.dev/docs/references/asyncapi): Drop in an AsyncAPI spec and get a native event reference — one real page per send and receive operation, in your sidebar and search.
- [GraphQL](https://useblume.dev/docs/references/graphql): Drop in a GraphQL schema and get a native API reference — one real page per operation and per type, in your sidebar and search.
- [Scalar](https://useblume.dev/docs/references/scalar): Embed Scalar's self-contained API reference UI on a single route, with any Scalar option passed straight through.
- [Hand-written API pages](https://useblume.dev/docs/references/api-pages): Document an endpoint in MDX, without a spec, and still get the method and path, a Try it panel, request samples, and pinned examples.

### CLI

- [Overview](https://useblume.dev/docs/cli): Every Blume command in one place, the flags each one accepts, and how to verify a site while the dev server keeps running.
- [Doctor](https://useblume.dev/docs/cli/doctor): blume doctor diagnoses configuration and content problems before you build — the config, every page, the Node version, and features that need a server.
- [Validate](https://useblume.dev/docs/cli/validate): blume validate checks every link in your content — pages, anchors, assets, and optionally external URLs — and fails CI when one is broken.
- [Audit](https://useblume.dev/docs/cli/audit): blume audit crawls the built site and reports SEO and site-health issues — every finding names the source file and front matter line that fixes it.
- [Evals](https://useblume.dev/docs/cli/evals): blume eval gives your docs a test suite — an AI agent answers your users' questions using only the documentation, a judge grades the answers, and CI fails when the docs can't answer.
- [Translate](https://useblume.dev/docs/cli/translate): blume translate fills in your locales with an AI agent — it finds the pages that are missing or outdated in each language, translates them with the agent CLI you already have, and gives CI a gate that fails when translations drift.
- [Version](https://useblume.dev/docs/cli/version): blume version freezes the current docs as an archived version — copying the tree, rewriting its links, and registering the id in your config.

##### Inhaltsquellen

## Português

### Docs
